Drip-Fed - Under The Wave Blanket

I've slacked with posting lately due to work and playing in bands and as a result I've missed out on some really cool music coming out. This right here is one of the releases I've missed. Drip-Fed are a 4 piece hardcore band from Austin, Texas who play a brand of hardcore comparable to Fucked Up, Drug Church or My War era Black Flag. This is their newest 7" Under The Wave Blanket which came out March 3rd. Clocking in at just under 9 minutes, UTWB serves up 3 tracks of pure punk fury that shouldn't be missed. Plus its under 10 minutes, don't tell me you can't take 10 minutes out of your day to listen to something thats not Metallica or whatever the fucking radio plays, Don't miss out on this record like I did, take notice.

Snag - ST

Holy fuck am I ever stoked on this band. Hailing from Milwaukee, Wisconsin Snag play a brand up slightly unhinged punk that reminded me of bands like Loma Prieta or even Rorshach for those of you who remember those guys. Snag is their self titled debut EP which came out May 2nd and should not be missed, 6 songs jam packed with riffs and lyrics that actually convey a message unlike so many of today's metal and hardcore bands who sing about trivial things or fantasy. I haven't known about these guys for very long but I can say without a doubt that I'll be jamming the hell out of this EP for a long time. Dont sleep on this.

Purity Control - Adjusting

I can't find much information on this band but holy fuck are they ever great. From what I can gather Purity Control are a hardcore band from Toronto that boarder on powerviolence in terms of musical output. I can't find any social media pages or find any recent show's they've been booked for so I'm going to assume they're no longer a band. Anyways, they have 3 releases on their bandcamp which are all worth listening to, check it out.

Twin Rivals - 2016 Demo

Twin Rivals are a melodic hardcore band from Toronto, Ontario. Their 2016 demo is 4 tracks of blistering hardcore that fans of bands like Defeater, Counterparts and early Stick To Your Guns should be into. This one's been on repeat since I found it last month and I highly recommend checking it out, big things coming from these guys.

Punisher - World Eater

Formerly known as Purgatory, Keswick's Punisher play a brand of heavy beatdown hardcore that fans of bands like Desolated, Xibalba, and Drowning should be into. World Eater came out last May and offers up 7 tracks of mosh worthy riffs. If you had to check out just one track I would recommend the title track, it's a complete shitkicker and leaves you wanting more. Check these guys out now and show them some love.

World View - Wilt

Vancouver's World View flew under the radar for me until recently when I came across them on another site and holy fuck did this one surprise the hell out of me. Their most recent release "Wilt" serves up two tracks of nonstop fight riffs that call to mind bands like Trapped Under Ice, Terror and even some early Madball. This one's another highly recommended EP and I can't see anyone being letdown by this one.

Coffin Dragger - Desperation EP

Hailing from London, Ontario Coffin Dragger play a brand of metallic hardcore akin to bands like Knocked Loose and Varials. From the opening notes of "Desperation" to the final notes of closing track "Liar" Coffin Dragger manage to bludgeon you with some of the heaviest riffs you'll hear out of Ontario's burgeoning hardcore scene, frontman Nick Greeson yells and barks his way through all 7 tracks with a sense of purpose and provides more than most vocalists in the scene do. Overall this is a solid debut outing and you'll surely regret missing out on this release if you pass it up.

Reliever - Two Songs

Reliever are a three piece hardcore band from Windsor Ontario. Two Songs, their newest outing was released November 15th, 2016. Opening track "Scale" starts of with an ominous riff and swells of feedback before leading into a blistering barrage of punk riffs that just build and build until it eventually hits a peak and drops you into a breakdown that'll have you banging your head like you're at a Slayer show, while the second track "Hunt" opens with a groovy two-step part before bringing in some blast beats only to switch seamlessly back and forth between the two before turning into a pit riff free for all. Overall this is a strong outing for these boys and a solid follow up to their previous EP "Something Wrong".

Mad Trapper - Know Fear Single

Yesterday Toronto's own metallic hardcore giants Mad Trapper released a new song. Recorded as part of the Converse Rubber Tracks program by Alex Bonenfant and Trevor Anderson at Noble Street Studio's in Toronto, Know Fear is one of their best offerings as a band and shows the growth they continue to make as a band.

Big Evil

Big Evil is a 2 piece chaotic hardcore band from Toronto, I found these guys by accident one day and was very glad I did.  For fans of Norma Jean, Retox or Botch their debut release "Empty" is short (2:13 total runtime), noisy and (as stated above) chaotic as all hell.  They are recording/recorded their next batch of tunes and I'm really interested to see what they'll do next.

Heart Attack Kids

Hailing from London Ontario Heart Attack Kids are a vicious 2 piece punk rock band with a feel and sound more along the lines of 3 or 4 piece group.  The embodiment of mid to late 80’s L.A punk with a healthy dose of chaos scattered throughout; this band is fierce in your face and doesn’t let up for one second.  Their newest released (which is self-titled) and their earlier release called Hooligans will have you banging your head till it falls off.

Foxmoulder

Foxmoulder is a 4 piece self-proclaimed "emoviolence" band from Toronto. These guys take a lo-fi no bullshit approach to aggressive music and as cliche as it sounds, are a breath of fresh air. Recorded at Soybomb in Toronto (which if you've ever been you know is punk as fuck) their latest release, a split with Russian hardcore outfit Eaglehaslanded, is 5 tracks of dissonant arpeggiated riffs, vocal caterwauling and driving rhythms. Can't wait to see what these guys have in store next. Check out their bandcamp page and download all of their releases for pay what you want. Catch them March 4th at The Coalition in Toronto opening for Fucking Invincible (members of Daughters).

Cruel Bloom - Ketamine EP

I won't write much about this band (because I play in it) but we're a weird experimental punk/noise band and this is shameless self promotion. So check it out if you want (or don't, that's equally as cool). I can't really give you something to compare it to since I'm still not sure what to categorize it as, but whatever I digress.

Die Hexe - Self Titled EP

Hailing from Toronto, Die Hexe play a brand of hardcore all their own. When I first heard of these guys I wasn't entirely sure what to make of it. There were some atmospheric parts that brought Deafheaven to mind, some post hardcore sections that reminded me of bands like Hot Snakes or Drive Like Jehu, and there was a whole lotta hardcore that reminded me of, well the entire Deathwish Inc. roster, but the thing is, when you listen to songs like "Jaws" or my personal favorite "Long Live The New Flesh" you don't actually hear any of that, what you hear is a band doing something all their own, and killing it. Die Hexe are truly a band to watch out for, they're definatly putting in the time and working at becoming a great band and I really hope these guys keep at it and go somewhere with their music because in the short time I've become aware of them, they're remained on heavy rotation. So put down the bong, stop reading this bullshit review, and go listen for yourself.
